Student Council

Student Council

We have a very active and high profile student council at the Joseph Rowntree School. It is chaired by our team of head boy and girl and deputies, with 4 representatives from each year group. Year group reps chair half termly meetings with year team councils. All items from this are brought to the full school council, which meet every half term. The school council is an important section of our leadership team in the school. Recently they have led in the creation of our successful school house system, the introduction of new school house ties, and also in the naming of some cluster areas in the school. The group lead a full school assembly every half term, and last year raised a significant amount of money for charity through various events. This included Jessie’s Fund, the Pearl of Africa Choir Foundation, Children in Need, Comic Relief, The Royal British Legion and Pump Aid.

Head Boy and Girls and our Prefect team

We have a head boy and girl and deputies who lead both the prefect team and the school council. These positions are elected by our students and staff in the school. The head boy and girls and their deputies take part in a number of important school events throughout the year. Alongside the student council they also contribute a student panel to staff appointments. They meet regularly with our senior leadership team and also chair the student council. Our prefect team is made up of year 11 students. Prefects take responsibility for different cluster areas in our school. Prefects have a duty day, where they are on hand to help and speak to students before school and at lunchtime. They are also able to reward good behaviour through our rewards policy.
